Alejandra Arevalo
I’m a journalist who learned how to code, now analyzing and visualizing music data at Chartmetric.
Coding + Data Visualization
At Chartmetric, I turn music data into interactive charts and data insights. As a Developer Fellow at Hearst Newspapers' DevHub, I worked on projects that leveraged data analysis, web development and AI for local newsrooms in the US.
As a freelancer, I've created interactive data viz projects for award-winning publications The Pudding and Ojo Público in Peru.
Writing + Editing
I've done journalism and content writing—mostly with a focus on the Latino community, for publications and tech companies including Latina Magazine, Chartmetric and Microsoft. In my free time, I act as Interactives Editor at Nightingale, the Journal of the Data Visualization Society.
I also enjoy creative writing. I co-authored a book about inspirational women in history, available at all major booksellers.
About me
My journey from NYU's journalism school to newsrooms and now tech has equipped me with a blend of storytelling, data analysis, and web development experience.
In my free time, you can find me watching Formula 1, working on my podcast "Found in Translation," or running around San Francisco.
